We are honoured to announce the launch of the Charlie Tiang Art Scholarship, created in partnership with the extraordinary Tiang family in memory of their beloved son, Charlie.
Charlie was a cherished member of the Challenge community who bravely battled brain cancer until his passing in 2023, at the tender age of seven. Despite the countless rounds of treatment, therapy, and rehabilitation, Charlie’s spirit remained larger than life, and his infectious smile could light up any room. He faced his cancer journey with remarkable courage, never allowing the hurdles he encountered to dampen his zest for life.
Among his many passions, art held a special place in his heart. Through art, Charlie found a powerful way to express himself and find respite from the daily challenges he endured. He worked closely with our very own art therapist and his creativity continued to flourish. Charlie’s family found comfort in seeing how each stroke and every new shade of colour could uplift his spirits and positively shape his overall well-being.
In Charlie’s memory, his family requested that donations be made to Challenge in lieu of flowers. The generosity of Charlie’s friends and family was overwhelming, leading to the establishment of this scholarship. The Charlie Tiang Art Scholarship will continue to honour Charlie’s legacy by offering children aged 4 to 18 the opportunity to explore their creativity and pursue their artistic dreams. The scholarship will be awarded twice a year, providing other children facing similar circumstances the chance to experience the same joy and fulfillment that art brought to Charlie.
We are proud to offer this scholarship as a fitting tribute to a very special boy. To apply or learn more, please click here.
