The Magic of Junior Camp

Junior Camp has a way of reminding you that childhood is made up of simple things. A new friend at breakfast. The courage it takes to spend a first night away from home. Sand in your shoes after a walk on the beach. A day that feels like it might never run out of sunshine.

Over three unforgettable days in Mt Eliza, our campers threw themselves into every adventure that came their way. There was bouncing, climbing and soaring at Inflatable World, where the only challenge seemed to be deciding what to jump on next, while Ready Steady Go kept everyone moving with a variety of multi-sport activities that brought out plenty of energy, teamwork and laughter. Along the way, campers also came face-to-face with some of Australia’s more curious creatures thanks to Wild Action, with wide eyes, cautious hands and, for the brave, the chance to get up close to a few creepy crawlies.

As the sun began to set on Saturday, campers headed down to the beach for a walk along the shoreline. It was one of those perfect evenings where the sky seemed to linger a little longer than usual. Afterwards, everyone settled in for a movie and a well-earned rest after a big day of adventure.

Sunday brought even more excitement. Felix the Magician returned to amaze campers with his tricks, while face painting and dress-ups transformed the room into a colourful collection of superheroes, animals and imaginative characters.

The weekend’s grand finale was a visit from the Mt Eliza Police and Fire Brigade. Campers climbed aboard emergency vehicles, sat behind the wheel of a police car, switched on the sirens and even took their turn handling the firefighters’ hose. It was the kind of experience many will be talking about long after camp had finished.

For some children, Junior Camp was their first time away from home. By the end of the weekend, the nerves of Friday had given way to confidence, friendships and plenty of stories to share. It was a weekend full of fun, discovery and the kind of memories that stay with you long after the bags have been unpacked.
