Dreams came true on the weekend as our little Bomber mascots met their AFL superheroes when Essendon played Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.
Marking the sixth year that Challenge partnered with the Essendon Football Club for an annual game, 22 members ran through the match-day banner, hand-in-hand with their favourite players. The children’s smiles filled the stadium as they grasped their biggest heroes’ hands, with the crowd’s roar in the background. On the day before the game, our members went to Essendon’s headquarters to witness the players preparing for the match and had the chance to kick the footy with their favourite players.
These are memories that our children will cherish forever. These experiences give our members hope and strength to tackle the next obstacle in their cancer journey.
One of our courageous Challenge superheroes, 15-year-old Fletcher, presented the match ball to the umpires. Fletcher is a fighter and an inspiration, so for Essendon to grant this unique opportunity was incredible. Another Challenge superhero, six-year-old Samantha, walked confidently onto the famous green turf and tossed the coin, strategically flipping it in favour of her beloved Bombers! Without our strong relationship with the Bombers, these wonderful opportunities wouldn’t be possible.
Challenge is proud of its 20-year association with the Essendon Football Club, which continues to go from strength to strength. This relationship makes dreams come true, so we want to thank everyone at the club for their continual support. Our members will carry these memories with them forever.
