Gladiator on the Greens: Lucas Herbert Helps Ripper GC Claim LIV Team Championship

23 September 2024

Challenge ambassador Lucas Herbert has achieved the biggest victory of his career, securing a $20 million team prize with his Ripper GC teammates at the LIV Golf Team Championship.

While Cam Smith sealed the win on the 17th hole, it was Herbert – nicknamed “The Gladiator” by his captain – who delivered a clutch performance. After a challenging seventh hole, where he carded a seven, Herbert rallied with three consecutive birdies and capped it off with a fourth on the final hole, keeping his team atop a tight leaderboard in Dallas.

Reflecting on the win, Herbert said, “I don’t know what it is, but out there, I just kept thinking, I don’t want to be the guy who lets the team down. I didn’t want to finish the day and have the boys giving me grief for costing us the trophy.”

Looking ahead, Herbert expressed his excitement for the future. “I’m really looking forward to all the events in Australia later this year and early next year. It’s going to be a lot of fun – and maybe a few sore heads over the next few months on home soil,” he added with a grin.
