A Jolly Good Day on the Port Phillip Bay

14 April 2022

It is one of the best family days of the year; the one that calls on all of Challenge’s finest comrades to set sail on an adventure like no other. You thought right, we’re talking about Williamstown Boat Day.

Willy Boat Day has been a staple on the Challenge calendar for more than 20 years! Fortunately for all of us, the weather gods were in our favour this year as it was nothing but blue skies and sunshine when we made our journey out on Port Phillip Bay.

The day saw more than 150 people attend, all showing up with grins as big as the bay itself, ready to weigh the anchor and set sail to the stirring waters that were calling upon us. On the shores, there was live music, face-painting and a gluttonous amount of food. And on the waters, well, where do we start?

With our ship and crew in tow, we set out on a quest for the hidden treasure that our hearts were destined to find. We traversed the calm waters quite nicely until we heard the cry of our captain and we were suddenly stopped in our tracks.

“Sail Ho!”, he exclaimed. We were not alone. We had encountered our enemy – a ship of scallywags, vying for our treasure.

To the best of their ability, these scallywags fought with gusto to sink our ship. It was a water balloon battle for the ages. A story that will stand the test of time. But it was us, the Challengers, who came out victorious! We overhauled the enemy and secured our treasure.

We celebrated our victory back on the shores with family and friends, before embarking on another mini adventure – a scrumptious Easter egg hunt! It’s fair to say, we all went home with bags full of treasure.

The day was an enormous success, and it was so great to have so many families involved.

A mighty big thank you to the Rotary Club of Port Gellibrand, the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, Captain Mick, Williamstown Charters, the Pirates, our talented face painter, Toula, the band (Rachel and David), and lastly, all our trusty volunteers.  We would not have been able to provide our families with this fantastic experience without each and every one of you. You are all stars!
