News: 2 December 2016
Celebrating its 25th year, the Robert Allenby Golf Day and Gala Dinner remains one of the biggest events in the Challenge calendar with Robert raising over $20 million for Challenge in the last 24 years.
With the support of Sandy Jamieson and Jarrod Lyle, Robert held a golf clinic for Challenge kids in the morning and greeted players throughout the day at the first tee. Australian golfing greats, Ian Baker-Finch and Mike Clayton were there to throw their support behind the event as well as a special visit by US Team Member for the 2016 World Cup, Rickie Fowler!
Jarrod provided tips to participants on the 11th hole, where there was a new Volvo S60 up for grabs for the golfer who could deliver a hole in one. The windy conditions ensured we did not see a repeat of Jarrod’s 2015 effort of two holes in one, but the rain held off and all had a great day.
The festivities continued at the Crown Palladium for the Gala Dinner. Board member Tom Gleisner started proceedings as our MC for the night and Challenge CEO David Rogers and Robert Allenby addressed over 600 guests.
The live auction saw people bidding on their dreams of luxury golf rounds, a new Volvo and amazing holiday experiences. Toward the end of the night the curtained area at the rear of the Palladium was opened by three of Crown’s showgirls to reveal the Supper Club. Guests were able to enjoy a selection of amazing desserts, cocktails, a VR gaming booth and the opportunity to create fun photos and memories with their friends. Entertainment was provided by Gala Dinner favourites, Velvet Corporation who performed to a packed dance floor.
A huge thank you to the golfers, sponsors, famous faces and volunteers who helped to make the 2016 event one of the best ever.
