Recapping a Spectaular Septmeber!

20 October 2021

Time flies by in lockdown when you’re having fun, that’s for sure! We certainly made evidence of that these school holidays with an online program that delivered all kinds of fun.

From cooking and gaming to reading and hacky sack making, we tried our hand at everything in the last two weeks of September.

We kickstarted the program with one of Australia’s most-loved blokes – that’s right, the charming and hilarious Andy Lee returned to Challenge screens for his famous book reads that brought smiles to the faces of children and parents alike. Andy shared his time with us in both weeks of the school holiday program, helping kids laugh off their seats and rejoice at his funny, yet sometimes peculiar, jokes.

Andy decided to put his hosting skills to the test too when he led our Grand Final Footy Q&A, which also welcomed stars Matthew Richardson, Jake Stringer, Andrew Gaze, and Tony Shaw, with a special guest appearance from The Suburban Footballer. We must say, it was a particularly enlightening occasion to hear about all the ins and outs of sport, both on and off the field. From the nerves that run through your body before a big game to the tough conversations had with coaches, we can certainly say that we have a greater appreciation for how hard these athletes work to maintain the peak level of fitness and determination required to perform at the highest standard.

Once we were done with reading and sport, we took to the screen with Pino Marmina – head chef and owner at the famous Malvern café Fleischer Cakes – to put our cooking skills to the test. Messy but delicious, we all had a ball. It is also only fair to share that I think we may have some mini-Jamie Olivers in our midst.

To cap off an already sensational two weeks, we were joined by international YouTube sensation Vikkstar, who shared his time with our Challenge troopers to answer all their most pressing gaming questions. We had to wake up early for this session to find a suitable time to meet the UK-based star, but it was all worth it to hear from one of gaming’s best.

We hope you all had as much fun as we did and we look forward to our January School Holiday Program when we can hopefully be back out in the community, in the summer sun.

Thank you to everyone who joined in and made the last two weeks of September so enjoyable.
