News: 9 March 2023
2023 is shaping up to be the year of haircuts for a cause! Ben Brown, the superstar forward for the Melbourne Football Club, recently took the plunge and shaved his iconic locks to show support for Challenge. And now, Andrea Zanella and Josie Caverzan will join the movement by shaving their heads at the end of March.
Andrea and Josie are truly inspiring women – not only are they best friends and mothers, but they’re also cancer survivors and two of Challenge’s most dedicated volunteers. Whether helping out at golf days, lending a hand at gala events, or finding other creative ways to support Challenge’s mission, Andrea and Josie are always eager to give back.
Andrea was first introduced to Challenge when her six-year-old son, Daniel, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. These are the words that a parent should never hear. Challenge supported Andrea and her family as they dealt with the impact of Daniel’s cancer diagnosis. Whether it was home help, a friendly face in the hospital, a parent retreat, or a camp for Daniel or his sister Monique, Challenge was always there. Despite chemotherapy, radiation, bone marrow transplants, and many other treatments, Daniel sadly passed away in 2006 at ten.
Alongside the journey, Josie was always a constant presence, offering unwavering friendship and support to her best friend. They work as a team, and their latest mission is no exception.
Andrea and Josie set an ambitious goal to raise $50,000 for Challenge in honour of Daniel’s memory and to celebrate their own cancer-free milestones. Their efforts have paid off in a big way, with over $52,000 raised and counting. On March 31st, they will follow their promise to shave their heads.
Andrea and Josie’s courage and generosity are an inspiration to us all. Their unshakeable bond and commitment to helping others is a testament to the power of friendship and community. We thank them for their unwavering support of Challenge and wish them all the best in their big event.
