The Ninja Warrior Making a Difference

11 August 2020

Many of you have spotted Charlie Robbins and his family wearing Challenge’s Leuk the Duck pin on the Channel 9 program  Australian Ninja Warrior. You might also be wondering why…

Though known primarily as a ninja beast, Charlie is also an avid golfer. The sport has always been an important part of Charlie’s life and his grandfather, Taffy, was once the organiser of the Portsea Golfer Classic – an event loved by our late friend and ambassador, Jarrod Lyle, who took out the title in 2012.

Charlie was fortunate enough to meet Jarrod six years ago at Moonah Links. Charlie was 15 years old at the time and knew a lot about Jarrod, inspired by his journey and the many obstacles he had conquered. He knew Jarrod as the man who, despite all the adversity he endured, always approached life with a consistently positive attitude and an admirable perseverance.

Saturday, 8th August 2020 marked the two-year anniversary of Jarrod’s passing. This is always a difficult time of the year, but it is heartening to see people like Charlie and his family continue Jarrod’s legacy of supporting kids living with cancer through our champion Leuk the Duck. Away from the Ninja Warrior stage, Charlie has also been virtually working with our kids, creating various obstacles they can complete at home to stay active during lockdown!

Charlie was crowned the winner of the 2019 Australian Ninja Warrior, and had the chance to defend his title in 2020. Charlie missed out by one second from winning for the second year in a row, but he still is a champion in our eyes!

Well done, Charlie – the Challenge community is incredibly proud of you and your achievements!
