Patrons for Challenge

Challenge Patron - Robert Allenby

There are two different sides to champion golfer Robert Allenby. One is the confident sportsman who strides the international fairways with a powerful competitive spirit that rivals the best in the game. The other is the sensitive, caring Patron of Challenge.

For 14 years, Robert has devoted much of his spare time to Challenge. His dedication has earned him the respect of his co-workers, the deep gratitude of parents and most importantly for him, the love of many kids whose lives he has touched.

Robert is usually an intensely private person, but when it comes to Challenge, he wears his heart on his sleeve.

Robert's association with Challenge was triggered by the memory of a 13-year-old childhood friend who died of leukaemia.

“We were the same age and I never forgot my confused thoughts about his death,” he said.

Robert turned professional in 1991 and determined to help kids in similar situations he decided to use his name and celebrity status to start a fundraising golf day. A friend suggested Challenge, and Robert's ambition became a reality.

The Robert Allenby Golf Day began as an intimate golfing affair and has continued to blossom over the past fourteen years.  Today the event has become one of Australia 's most prestigious golfing days on the charity circuit.

Robert has the capacity to attract many international and Australian golfers who come to the event in support of Challenge.  Since 1992, the Robert Allenby Golf Day has raised in excess of $6 million and Robert has personally donated over $5 hundred thousand to this organisation.

Challenge's relationship with Robert has grown and developed over time, and not only does Robert donate his services to the Robert Allenby Golf Day, he also provides many children and families with joy and support.

We are immensely proud of Robert who continues to shine as a professional golfer. In 2005, Robert achieved what no other golfer has ever done in Australia , by winning all three major Australian tournaments: The Australian PGA, the Australian Masters and the Australian Open.

On behalf of everyone at Challenge we wish Robert the utmost success in his future golfing career and sincerely thank him for the wonderful work, support and dedication he has shown as the Patron of our organisation.
