Challenge recognises that not only children experience difficulties following their diagnosis - it affects the whole family. We have also identified that women and men deal with these issues differently.
With parents requiring separate forms of support, Challenge has created two parent programs: Women for Challenge (WFC) and Dad's Ultimate Challenge (DUC) Club to meet their needs.
When a child is diagnosed, many parents find themselves living in hospital or in temporary housing for months on end, not wanting to leave the bedside of their child. Parents can become isolated from their family and friends, and often find the pressures of having to continue the daily responsibilities of work and household maintenance difficult.
It is our strong belief that if parents are cared for, they are better able to devote themselves to their children with strength and focus.
